Kevin Bacon Has 1980′s Awareness Message for Millennials: Favorite App Was ‘Rubik’s Cube’

BaconActor Kevin Bacon is delivering an important message to millennials too busy on their second and third screens to appreciate what he had to go through in the 1980′s.

Currently starring in Fox’s “The Following,” Bacon had a message for all those born after 1985.

“You want to know my favorite app?” Bacon asked. “Rubik’s Cubes.”

He went on to bemoan how technology has made today’s youth ignorant to how hard dating was back in the 80′s, without things like “OkTwinder” (a clever mashup of OkCupid and Tinder).

He continues on but finally gets restless with the short-attention span millennials of today.

50 Cent and Hang w/ to lead SXSW Interactive transition into SXSW Music

50centTonight will mark the end of South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive and the start of SXSW Music. Helping to make the transition will be 50 Cent, who will headline an exclusive concert at 1100 Warehouse at 8pm.

The concert will be broadcast exclusively via ‘Hang w/,’ an app that allows people to hang out with each other via live video and chat. Unlike Instagram and Vine, there is no need to take the extra step to publish videos; instead, a user simply presses record and followers are notified that the user is currently streaming content.

“This is going to be a pivotal event in Hang w/ history,” said Andrew Maltin, co-founder and CEO of Hang With, Inc. “Hang w/ has shown itself to be a powerful technology platform for musicians to engage their fans, and we are thrilled at the opportunity to showcase our platform in front of the who’s who of music and tech, courtesy of 50 Cent who himself lives at the intersection of music and tech.” Read more

Exclusive: Palladia to give SXSW 2014 attendee programming power for a day

unnamedNext week, the film, television, music, and tech industries will descend upon Austin for South by Southwest (SXSW). The festival has grown tremendously in the past five years, and many brands use the week to shine a spotlight on new projects.

VH1 will be heading down and will focus on marketing its hi-def music channel, Palladia. Whereas MTV and VH1 have strayed away from music programming, Palladia is dedicated to showcasing music from Viacom’s portfolio 24/7.

On March 12, the network will be taking over Cedar Door Grill in Austin for “Palladia’s EPIC. AWESOME. SHOWCASE.” More exciting, though, is that Palladia will be giving one fan at SXSW the opportunity to program Palladia for an entire day with whatever live music content they want to show. SXSW attendees simply have to tweet about their “epic” and “awesome” experience using hashtag #epicawesome and Palladia will be choosing the winner based on the most compelling tweets received.

As TV and music options proliferate, networks will have to continue to integrate fan feedback into their programming schedules in order to hold their attention. “Simply put, fans impacting and influencing the programming is in my opinion not just the future of social TV, but TV in general,” Tom Chirico, VP, Digital and Social Engagement, VH1 and Palladia, told Lost Remote. “Digital has created the expectation that we live in an on-demand content world and through activations like this we’re bringing that same spirit to linear as well.” Read more
