A recap of the 2014 upfronts from Stuart Elliott and Simon Applebaum

imagesTelevision’s most wonderful time of the year has just come to an end. The TV and digital upfronts concluded this month with some exciting new announcements on both the linear and digital fronts. Lost Remote attended many of them. If you’re not sure what news came from the parties and presentations here’s one of the best recaps out there from television expert and host Simon Applebaum and The New York Times writer Stuart Elliott. Applebaum’s show Tomorrow Will Be Televised, “is a weekly program covering the television scene,” often hitting upon important social TV themes and topics. Univision Upfront: ‘social is key component in how we create content and how we engage the audience’

Flama (the media company’s new OTT)  and Fusion (the newish English-language, millennial focused news partnership with Disney ABC) were among the platforms where digital and social were presented as part of their DNA. A+E Networks get social for 2014 upfront

A & ELost Remote attended A+E Networks upfront last night in NYC held at the Park Avenue Armory. The entire venue was designed as a social media heaven, giving attendees a chance to enjoy treats from their favorite shows and to of course take selfies with their favorite stars from A&E, HISTORY, H2, Lifetime, FYI and more. They went even further and even embedded a Social Media Lab to give fans a chance to be part of their favorite shows online. ESPN and Twitter expand their partnership with video at the center

Upfront week is already proving to be the platform for major social TV announcements. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that ESPN and Twitter will expand their partnership that was announced a year ago. Last year’s partnership set an important precedent that allowed advertisers to buy ads across TV and Twitter at the same time. Now video is becoming the focus of the growth of their partnership. Fox and Twitter announce major social TV advertising partnership

Upfront week is underway and there are already major social TV announcements that have been made. According to the LA Times, “Fox said it would use Twitter to distribute clips of upcoming TV shows, tout highlights of live events or share video after episodes of various shows have aired.” This new partnership is going to allow Fox to tap into Twitter’s ad platform. Ryan Seacrest at the E! Upfront: web traffic to E! up 38% year over year

Last night’s E! upfront was once again, the party not to miss. The Kardashians, Ryan Lochte, Kevin Jonas and more were in NYC for the network’s big celebration for advertisers. Social wasn’t just a side note, it was the main part of the night. In addition to the stars Instagramming and taking tons of photos with fans, Ryan Seacrest showed advertisers in his presentation how important the network’s web reach is. Read more
