When art and music change the world: new MTV World series ‘Rebel Music’ follows young people in 6 countries

safe_imageLast Monday, MTV World debuted ‘Rebel Music,’ a new documentary series about musicians and artists in areas of conflict. ‘Rebel Music’ will feature six episodes examining the lives of young people using art and music to create change around the world. The first two episodes premiered last week, and the remaining four episodes will debut weekly on mtvU and RebelMusic.com. Artist and activist Shepard Fairey, who also created the visual identity for ‘Rebel Music,’ is an executive producer. Read more

The cable TV industry may be looking at a big change in the future, according to Cablevision’s CEO Jim Dolan. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Dolan stated “there could come a day’ when his company stops offering television service, making broadband its primary offering.” Read more

Food Network Star Cuts Finger During Live TV, Tweets & Instagrams Updates

Food Network T-dayIt was a messy pre-Thanksgiving for the Food Network’s Giada De Laurentiis, who cut her finger during the airing of “Thanksgiving Live” Saturday, but still found a way to keep her social media fans up-to-date on her condition.

The show—which is very social media savvy featuring viewer tweets and Skype questions—was going just fine until De Laurentis sliced her finger while cutting a turkey roll during commercial break.

“Anything can happen…and anything did,” host Alton Brown told viewers upon returning from commercial break at 1:41pmET, informing them Giada cut herself and had to be removed from the premises.

Microsoft Enlists ‘Pawn Stars’ In Commercial Targeting Google Chromebook

Pawn StarsMicrosoft has launched an all-out offensive against Google Chromebook, enlisting History Channel’s “Pawn Stars” in a commercial highlighting the negatives of Chromebook.

“Because Chromebook applications are web-based, when you’re not connected, it’s pretty much a brick,” Pawn Stars’s Rick Harrison jokes. “A traditional PC utilizes built in applications like Office and iTunes that work, even when you’re offline.”

Harrison goes even further, pointing to the Chrome logo on the laptop and telling a female customer, “You see this thingy…that means it’s not a real laptop. It doesn’t have Windows or Office” and “without WiFi, it doesn’t do much at all.”

Smart IRThe Android’s updated Smart IR Remote is making traditional living room remotes more obsolete, giving TV watchers the ability to toss away the frustration of using multiple TV remotes by giving them control with one phone app.

The universal remote can control your set-top box, TV set, and DVD player, and works through Infrared Blasters already installed in Android phones and tablets. It allows users the ability to program more than 500,000 supported devices.
