Ever wonder who those commenters are?

Just about every news site or blog has them: a handful of frequent commenters who have something to say about almost everything under the sun.

So hats off to the Las Vegas Sun which did a story on their prolific commenters, bringing real names and faces to their comment handles. From the story, which profiles four of them:

Commenters don’t know one another’s real names, but regulars do know each other, (Jim) Bacon said, thanks to the Sun website’s community feel. Bacon admits he is a bit of an exhibitionist and enjoys commenting because people are reading and may change their opinions as a result of his comments.

I think this a terrific idea for a couple reasons. First, it reminds folks that commenters are real people with real ideas. And second, these four will feel more invested in the site and more likely to help steer the Sun’s community in a positive direction.
