Why truTV is giving fans prizes for cracking codes on Twitter

barryd1-master675 (1)Debuting on truTV tonight at 10pm EST is ‘The Safecrackers,’ a show about two Alabama locksmiths who specialize in cracking the toughest of vaults. The show will follow Phil Crawford and his friend Blaze as they travel across America with the goal of uncovering the contents of abandoned safes.

truTV will be giving viewers the opportunity to test their code-breaking mettle. During each of the first three episodes of the show, truTV will reveal a four-digit combination. Fans then have until 4:59am EST the next morning to tweet the combination with the hashtag #ImASafecracker for the chance to win one of 10 prize packs each week. In order to be eligible to win, fans must follow @truTV on Twitter.

Viewers who submit the correct code three weeks in a row will be entered to win $5,000.

truTV ran a similar sweepstakes for the return of its hit series ‘Impractical Jokers.’ It launched “Draft a Joker”, a Facebook sweepstakes that gave the show’s more than 700,000 Facebook fans the chance to test their knowledge of the series.
