Former ‘Boy Meets World’ Stars on Premiering ‘Girl Meets World’ in Social TV Age

Girl Meets WorldA cult classic from the 1990s is returning to TV this week under a different name while still offering some of the same legendary characters.

“Girl Meets World,” a spinoff to the hit coming-of-age story “Boy Meets World,” premieres on Disney Channel Friday at 9:45pmET.

“We didn’t really experience the fandom in the 90s because there was no social media,” Danielle Fishel, who played Topanga Lawrence on “Boy Meets Word” said on KTTV LA. “Now we feel it so instantly, where as back then I kind of felt like we did the show just for us.” Topanga is back in “GMW,” married to childhood sweetheart Cory Matthews, who now live with their two children in New York City.

“We were in a bit of a bubble back then,” Ben Savage, who rose to fame as Matthews on “Boy Meets World,” said. “Nowadays, the fan reaction is so instant, and so immediate, that depending on whether they like the show or not, it can go either way.”
