Peter Chernin joins Twitter’s board
Longtime media mogul and Hollywood exec Peter Chernin has officially joined Twitter’s board of directors. Chernin is the former president of News Corp., credited with the ratings success of FOX. He also played a critical role in creating and protecting Hulu. “I’ve been a long-time user of Twitter for news and information,” he said in his first tweet. “Happy to be joining board of this very exciting company.”
As Chernin reveals in his tweet, he’s been on Twitter for quite some time, but in a pure consumption role. “As Twitter has moved increasingly toward a more consumption-based, media-centric company, Chernin is an easy choice for a board seat,” explains AllThingsD. Chernin is also on Pandora’s board.
It also underlines Twitter’s “go big” attitude with TV, beefing up its media team lately with TV veteran Fred Graver and Broadcasting & Cable editor Ben Grossman. Chernin’s addition adds even more credibility in growing Twitter’s TV relationships, especially in its quest to tap into the giant sea of TV-related revenue.
