1 note“42% of responding (TV) station managers simply don’t know if their site is making money.”
— From a new RTNDA/Hofstra University survey that found that 31 percent of local TV station managers say they’re making money online. An even larger number, 42 percent, say they don’t know. And 48 percent say the newsroom has a long way to go. “(The study) holds a mirror up for us to see the immediate need for more editorial supervision and management vision,” said RTNDA Chairman Stacey Woelfel. “These sites have never been as important as they are now.” To me personally, this study is deeply troubling because it illustrates the same old problems local TV station sites have experienced over the last decade. Little has changed — just like newspapers — and for many stations it will soon become a threat to survival.
