GetGlue announces change to sticker program, fans react

GetGlue-LogoOn its blog last week, GetGlue (which was recently acquired by i.TV) introduced its new animated stickers. While these stickers are certainly an upgrade over their digital predecessors, the announcement came with this caveat. “As we open this door to a new, exciting future of stickers, it also means closing the door to our physical sticker program. We know that for many of you, this will be a bummer. But in time, we hope you’ll share our vision and excitement of things to come.” In the comment section – which has nearly 2,000 comments to date – loyal GetGlue users appear upset. There is even a petition well on its way to the 5,000 supporters needed. Read more

GetGlue Acquired By Video Discovery Startup i.TV

logo_locked_blue-Get-GlueMobile TV app i.TV has acquired social TV app GetGluecoming together in a deal that pairs a founding father in the second screen and TV check-in space with the Utah-based video discovery startup.

“Together, i.TV and GetGlue will reshape the social TV and second screen landscape,” said i.TV CEO, Brad Pello. “Together, i.TV and GetGlue are positioned to deliver the richest, most enjoyable, and most social second screen experience at a time when viewers are more eager than ever to watch and share with each other. We will have more to announce on that note early next year.”

Social TV highlights and takeaways from SXSW

Both Natan and I enjoyed a few days in Austin for SXSW Interactive this week, navigating even longer lines than last year, dodging the occasional rainstorm and searching for 3G service that actually worked. Entertainment Weekly's social TV app, viEWer [Interview]

There's an exciting social TV app that hit the ecosystem this fall, and it has the potential to change the TV magazine business. Entertainment Weekly's viEWer app, powered by i.TV, is combining social viewing with their expert journalists for viewing events in an app that works within a browser. This is already proving to be a lucrative property for the magazine. This month, Pepsi is sponsoring X Factor content on the platform, and on 12/15 "So You Think You Can Dance" judge Mary Murphy will co-host an episode of X Factor within the app.
