NBC Launches Long-Form Sports Site, NBC SportsWorld

NBC Sports Presents Every Peyton Manning Touchdown Throw in Six Seconds

week7_0If NBC Sports’ ‘Sunday Night Football’ wasn’t dominant enough, tonight’s game is a marquee matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Denver Broncos. And if that isn’t enough to draw you in, Peyton Manning will be gunning for the all-time passing touchdown (TD) record. Brett Favre currently holds the record with 508, and Manning needs two to tie and three to surpass him.

To celebrate the occasion NBC Sports released a Vine featuring all of Peyton Manning’s touchdown passes (note: from 2006 to present it is a pic of the exact TD throw; prior to 2006 it’s the games that he threw TDs in, but not necessarily the exact pass).

iPowow and Golf Channel Partner on Social Solution for 2014 Players Championship

ipowow_lostremoteiPowow, a leading participation TV platform that lends itself particularly well to sports clients, is teaming up with NBC Sports Group’s Golf Channel to provide a real-time second screen experience to viewers for this year’s Players Championship.

This year’s tournament began yesterday and continues through Sunday, and Golf Channel began utilizing iPowow’s solution in its ‘Golf Central’ and ‘Live From’ coverage since Monday, May 5. The network’s on-air crew will be posing questions to fans during its on-air coverage, and then directing fans to GolfChannel.com/vote to vote on the answers. The answers will be tracked and displayed on-air in real-time.

NBC Sports to Provide Record Amount of Kentucky Derby Coverage

NBC Sports Group is devoting more coverage than ever to this year’s Kentucky Derby, “The Fastest Two Minutes in Sports.” The record 15.5 hours of coverage begins tomorrow at 4 p.m. ET on NBCSN, and will conclude on Saturday, the day of the race.

NBC Sports will make the coverage available to stream via its ‘NBC Sports Live Extra’ desktop, mobile, and tablet experiences. The ‘Sports Live Extra’ experience will offer fans four exclusive camera angles, additional analysis from NBC Sports commentators, and highlights from the “Road to the Kentucky Derby” lead-in races.

As part of its sports coverage, NBC has been creating ‘All Access” social hubs. Similar to the experience created for the 2014 NHL Playoffs, the Kentucky Derby has its own social hub at nbcsports.com/Kentucky-derby-all-access. NBC Sports Prepares Digital and Social Strategy for 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs

NHL_2014_StanleyCupPlayoffsFour months removed from another incredibly successful Winter Classic, the NHL is preparing its social and digital strategy for playoff hockey.

For the third year in a row, every playoff game will be broadcast across multiple NBC Sports Group platforms. As many as 105 playoff games will air across NBC, NBC Sports Network, CNBC, and NHL Network, and all games will stream on NBC Sport Live Extra (accessible via desktop, mobile, and tablet devices).

NBC Sports will also be making a big social push. The network is partnering with Magisto, an app that will allow fans to create edited movies with effects from on their desktop or mobile device. There will be calls to action during the Stanley Cup asking fans to create Magistro movies of them celebrating and the best videos will be shown on air. Read more

With the World Cup approaching, NBC Sports Digital partners with Soccerly.com

soccerly_background_googleplus_02Last Thursday, NBC Sports Digital announced a partnership with Soccerly.com, a site that launched a little over a year ago that has quickly become a top destination for soccer fans in the United States.  As part of the partnership, Soccerly will provide NBCSports.com and it’s ProSoccerTalk section with content about all major global soccer leagues – including the MLS and Premier League – and expanded World Cup coverage.

NBC Sports expanded its soccer coverage in 2012, the same year that Verus was rebranded as the NBC Sports Network.  The NBC Sports Network smartly capitalized on the growing interest in the NHL, but with many of the major sports tied up in long-term television contracts, the NBC Sports Network made a splash with MLS and Premier League coverage.

The cross-platform coverage of the Premier League has been a huge success since debuting this past August.. Through NBCSports.com and its NBC Sports Live Extra app, live streams from the Premier League have delivered 1.2 million unique visitors 4.9 million visits, 8.3 million live starts and 185.2 million live minutes watched on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports Live Extra app. Read more

Why NBC Chose Adobe Primetime to Power its Digital Olympics Coverage

New-Primetime-LogoWhile NBC and partner networks are in the midst of broadcasting more than 500 hours of Olympic programming on TV, NBC has committed to doubling this output online via NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports Live Extra app. To power such expansive and expanded streaming coverage, NBC has chosen Adobe and their Adobe Primetime platform.  Adobe Primetime is an advanced TV publishing and monetization platform for programmers and pay-TV service providers.

After receiving flack for how it handled tape-delayed TV coverage during the 2012 London Games, NBC has enabled viewers to stream events live for this year’s Winter Games – even if NBC reserves these events to broadcast on TV in primetime.  It has been less than two years since the 2012 London Games, but viewing habits, especially when it comes to consuming sports content, have already changed. As the network with the rights to the games, NBC has much at stake with how the Twitter conversation plays out. To help distinguish its own messaging from the clutter, and to drive tune-in messaging, NBC has formally partnered with Twitter to promote the Sochi Games. The first display of this collaboration happened on Wednesday when @NBCOlympics debuted its feature on South Korean figure skater Yuna Kim on Twitter. Read more
