Tumblr has a new weapon up it’s sleeve to attract major TV talent who are looking to promote themselves and their work on social media. “Dashboard Confessions” is a new ”fan mail Q&A series where artists take over users’ Dashboards by answering questions and curating choice content.” Similar to how reddit AMA’s have become a must for talent, this new opportunity with Tumblr will definitely become an important press stop for major TV and film talent. Tumblr embarks on its first news network partnership tonight, joining forces with CNN for Christiane Amanpour‘s live town hall interview with former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The live special airs tonight at 5pmET on CNN, and Tumblr has been engaging users well in advance. Tumblr users were able to send in questions for Clinton via text, video, and animated GIF through CNN’s event Tumblr page. Amanpour will include some of these Tumblr questions during the live interview.
CNN and Tumblr will also liveblog throughout the event, curating conversation around the questions.
“By teaming up with CNN in our first news network partnership, we’re honored to give our community a resounding voice and a global stage to be heard,” said Tumblr’s Director of Media Sima Sistani.
AMC is entering a pivotal moment in its existence. Breaking Bad is over, Mad Men is coming to an end and The Walking Dead is still wildly popular, but no longer new. The network is eager to launch new hits and has begun to do so. To help bring their content to social TV AMC has become the first network to premiere a show on Tumblr. Lost Remote has been given the exclusive on revealing who the winner is, whose artwork will appear in the actual finale episode. Fans of ABC’s hit show, Nashville were recently given a big treat for being social TV fans of the show. The network announced an extremely smart competition on Tumblr to design Rayna Jaymes’ (one of the main characters of the show played by Connie Britton) new album cover. Tumblr has always been a huge platform for fan art and now that fan art is actually going to be given a chance to be incorporated into the actual show. We are excited to announce that on Wednesday the winner will be revealed here first on LostRemote.com. The Giffie Awards – in which MTV artists created real-time GIFs of events that transpired during the Movie Awards – were “presented by Taco Bell” and posted to MTV’s Tumblr throughout the evening. In addition to the Giffies, MTV gathered social influencers at Tumblr’s New York headquarters to produce additional content.
In just over two hours, MTV posted to its account a total of 87 times, and the results of the campaign, shared exclusively with Lost Remote, proved that it was a resounding success.
The posts generated over 250,000 notes, and reblogs constituted a high percentage of these notes. According to Tumblr, these numbers made the initiative one of the most engaging promoted campaigns in the social network’s history.
The big results come on the heels of a recent Pulsar study, which concluded that the conversation surrounding TV is larger and lasts longer on Tumblr versus Twitter. The study also suggested that on Tumblr, fans immerse themselves in their show’s universe, create their own narratives, and advocate for the show. Read more
Joining its social competition Facebook and Twitter, Tumblr announced today it has added an @mention functionality.
Users can enter the @ symbol and then someone’s username inside their post. A drop down menu will appear with a list of users closest to your search.
By typing the “@” symbol and then the username of who you want to address inside a Tumblr post, a drop down menu will appear. The user you are mentioning will get a notification on their dashboard and on their activity page.
