TiVo partners with Flingo to smarten non-smart TVs
As the digital video recorder becomes more ubiquitous, and is offered by nearly every cable provider, TiVo has been forced to offer more advantages to subscribers. The latest, a partnership with smart tv app leader Flingo, is a big step in the right direction.
“People are demanding access to online streaming content from the comfort of their own living room, and TiVo’s offerings has evolved to support that demand,” said Tara Maitra, SVP and general manager of content & media sales at TiVo Inc.
Accessing smart tv apps now doesn’t require consumers to own a smart tv. Instead, TiVo Premiere set-top boxe owners can access Flingo’s LaunchPad through the device. LaunchPad features over 70 video applications, including content from TMZ, A&E, History, Showtime, TV Guide. For the partnership, Flingo and TiVo have developed new content specifically for TiVo subscribers through the “LaunchPad for TiVo.”
