Xfinity's cool remote control program for iPad, iPhone

Comcast’s recently rebranded cable TV service, xfinity, has come out with an app for the iPad and iPhone that serves as a remote control for many of its boxes. I’ve been playing around with the app and I have to give credit where it’s due: it is excellent.

The app instantly pulls up xfinity programming in your area and when you find a show you want to watch, you just touch the WATCH NOW button and it sends a signal to your cable box. The channel change is fast – certainly faster than I can do by punching in the channel numbers. It as also enabled controls for xfinity DVRs. To record a show, you touch the RECORD button and it does the rest. The app also shows you what’s available on demand, and has similarly easy controls.

Very convenient, especially when you’re trying to find that lost remote…

Update: Comcast announced it will add live and on-demand video to the app
